Restore Public Trust in the Sheriff's Office
Dear Citizens of Will County,
It is with sincere regret that I write this letter. My hopes are that someday you, the citizens of Will County, will regain trust and confidence in the Will County Sheriff's Office.
I cannot adequately express how the Fox investigation, and the subsequent events that have taken place, has shaken our department to the core. I would like to assure the people of Will County that the overwhelming majority of employees at the Sheriff’s Office are hard working, competent, dedicated individuals who are proud of the job that they do.
It is appalling that such a horrific tragedy had to take place in order to bring to light the pervasive and ongoing failures of the current sheriff's administration to perform their duties in the best interest of Will County citizens. The Sheriff has recently announced that he is hiring "an outside firm" to examine the Fox investigation to tell him what is wrong within the department that he has served for 35 years. This is an insult to the citizens of Will County, as well as to the men and women that work for the Sheriff's Office.
Paul Kaupas’ statement, along with his actions and lack thereof during his two terms as sheriff, has shown that his administration is not working in the best interest of the citizens we are sworn to protect and serve.

When people are put into leadership positions, and are not performing their duties to the highest level of competence, changes must be made immediately. Problems within any office should not be ignored and allowed to smolder until we are forced to deal with it. The people of Will County entrusted the Sheriff to protect them and through his authority he has allowed a shadow to be cast upon us all.
To the citizens of this county, please do not judge all Sheriff’s employees for the mistakes and inactions of an administration that has time and again failed to make the right and tough decisions needed to ensure the safety and trust of the people.
Sincerely,
